Skin Needling Home Care Guide
Skin correction is a slow process. There is no quick fix. It takes a slow, combined effort of bespoke at home skin care and customized clinical treatments. I follow very strict protocols and require you to do the same so that together we can achieve the best results possible. If you consistently put the time and effort into your skin, it will reward you.
Pre-Treatment:
Getting your skin ready for needling is vital to the outcome of your treatment. Skin that is not ready, or cells that are not in optimal health, will not respond in the same way as skin that has been prepped to be in its ideal health, pre-treatment.
- Avoid any sun exposure for 48 hours prior to treatment
- Recommended skin care regimen for pre-conditioning for optimal results to be started minimum 6 weeks prior to treatment. This may be longer depending on the barrier function of your skin. (Recommended products without the use of any preservatives, fragrances, or emulsifiers for best results) including vit A, vit B, zinc.
- Fish oil, taken daily for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment
- 2 liters of water consumption per day for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment
- Avoid Retin A, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, and hydroquinone use for 2 weeks prior to treatment
- No hair removal for 3 days prior (waxing, shaving epilating etc)
- 2-10 LED treatment over 1-6 weeks prior to treatment
- If you are prone to cold sores, it is recommended to take an antiviral medication for 2-3 days leading up to the treatment
- Wait 4 weeks post Botox or fillers before having needling treatment
- You must wait 6 months after stopping the use of Accutane (isotretinoin) before having needling treatments.
- No self tanning products to be used for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
What to expect:
- Skin will feel warm/hot like sunburn
- Skin may feel very tight – use of a preservative free Hyaluronic serum is recommended for this
- Skin will be red post treatment – a lot of this will subside in the hours after treatment, but can take 3-4 days to completely disappear
- Skin may appear slightly swollen for 1-3 days
- On day 3-5 post treatment, you may experience some peeling/dry flaky skin
Post Treatment:
Whilst your skin is going through its wound healing process.
- Use a clean pillowcase on the night of treatment
- Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks
- Avoid makeup application for 12 hours post treatment
- Do not apply cold compresses or ice packs to the skin for 48 hours post treatment (you will take home a soothing mask which can be used as needed for 4 hours post treatment)
- Avoid heat (hot showers, heated pools, saunas) for 72 hours post treatment
- Avoid laser/IPL treatments for 6 weeks post treatment
- Wear SPF daily. Avoid unprotected sun exposure on the treated area FOREVER. Sun exposure will undo the results by increasing the production of melanin and breaking down the newly formed collagen and elastin.
- Avoid taking ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatories for 2 weeks post treatment
- Avoid active skincare (including AHA/BHA’s, exfoliants, Vitamin A & C etc) for 72 hours post treatment
- Do not exercise or sweat for 24 hours post treatment
- Do not pick or peel skin during the healing process
- Enzyme + LED treatment 3-5 days post needling treatment. (Included as a part of the treatment cost)
